USAP Launches 25th Anniversary Celebrations in Harare

On Monday, May 5, 2025, Education Matters hosted a get together to launch the USAP at 25 Harare commemorations. The gathering brought together Education Matters affiliates part of Mastercard Foundation and  USAP alumni from first classes to the recent USAP Community School cohorts who took time to reconnect, share experience and network together.

The afternoon was a moving remembrance of USAP’s history, which Rebecca started in 1999. Her passion for educational access and transformative education in Zimbabwe moved her to establish  the United States Achievers Program while serving as Education advisor at the U.S. Embassy. To date USAP has expanded educational opportunities to 1000+ high-achieving, low-income students and has been replicated in 14 countries.

In addition to enjoying the delicious snacks, USAP alumni and Education Matters friends engaged in warm conversations and college mates reconnected, reflecting on the impact of the USAP program on their lives and careers. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as alumni exchanged stories, insights and laughing about the 25 year legacy. The recent graduates from the USAP Community School marveled that for some, they would have been in pre school when the first USAP cohort graduated from college.

The event not only demonstrated our #25 years of impact but also set the stage for future collaborations and initiatives. It was a testament to the legacy of USAP’s dedication to using education to empower people who will make an impact in their communities and the world at large.
We are a network of alumni and friends spanning 25 years of professionalism and friendships. Wherever you are in the world we say, USAP is turning 25: Join the celebration !
